“Cyano-Type” is a tactile exploration of sustainability and alternative processes, blending traditional cyanotype techniques with modern, experimental typography. Each letter and number is crafted from organic and found objects and discarded materials. These items were then exposed on cotton squares pretreated with cyanotype emulsion and sewn into a hanging tapestry—celebrating reuse, imperfection, and the human hand in design.
This project, submitted to UCF’s PROOF Magazine, challenges hyper-consumerism by advocating for slower, intentional creation. It recontextualizes historical methods in response to technology’s growing dominance (like AI), emphasizing play, materiality, and the creative potential hidden in everyday waste. Aligning with PROOF’s mission, it merges sustainability with whimsy, inviting viewers to reconsider value and process in a disposable world.
